Terry Pratchett's work is addictive, monstrously detailed, funny - and
more than that. I don't think one really understands or enjoys the series until one u
nderstands that something that's parodic and funny can still have integrity and depth
quite apart from that which it's parodying. Disc characters turn out to be more than
flat caricatures. I like it better now that I don't read it just for the humour.
Discworld is absurd, but it's still more realistic than most novels of any genre.
