PETER MILLIGAN

Of course they hadn't told him he wasn't allowed to eat the doctors: they'd just arrogantly presumed he wouldn't.
- Enigma

ALANIS MORRISSETTE

I see my body as an instrument, rather than an ornament.

ALAN MOORE

Moses: (reading from the Bible) "...'They shall surely be put to death! And their blood'..."
Man: "...'Shall be upon them!' Yes. Look, just cut out the crap and give us a hit list!"
- Leviticus Chapter 20

Can it be a coincidence that, say, in the Sun newspaper, the ideal of female beauty would seem to be the body - the overdeveloped body - of a nubile woman and, what, the face of a twelve-year-old? Paedophilia is completely ingrained within our culture.

Most of the people who get sent to die in wars are young men who've got a lot of energy and would probably rather, in a better world, be putting that energy into copulation rather than going over there and blowing some other young man's guts out.

Sex is glorious, it's how we all got here, and it's most people's favourite activity.

The only place that you seem to find anything of any value is at the margins of any of these cultures, at the fringes of pop and of cinema and comics and books. That's where the real action's going on, not in the kind of Oscar-winning or Booker-prize winning enclave.

To paint comic books as childish and illiterate is lazy. A lot of comic books are very literate - unlike most films.

Strangers in Paradise

"Ooh... That hurts, doesn't it? BAD truth! BAD, BAD truth!"

"The more they love you, the more they need. Love makes promises you have to keep."

VIGGO MORTENSEN

On Charlie Rose

Charlie Rose: What would you have had the United States do after the attack at the Pentagon and at the twin towers?
Viggo Mortensen: I would not have continually bombed innocent civilians from 30,000 feet with no possibility of being accurate and maiming and killing and destroying the lives of many more people than died at the World Trade Center.

You know, I read in The New York Times--which you have here, I looked at it yesterday--the front page is, it's not even, "should we do this?" or is it a question. It's just the countdown--as if it was a holiday countdown--for the big war and this and that. And then the Science or whatever section... it's bigger weapons and faster vehicles for the military. And then photographs of the women serving. It's all kind of fun. And it's like the people on the ground in those countries, who are the ones who are being affected, they're invisible. If they're not American, if they're not European, they don't exist, they're disposable. And more of them have died in the past year than died at the World Trade Center. What... does that mean anything?

There's nothing wrong with responding. It's how do you respond.

MY SO-CALLED LIFE
~ a television series

Everybody's an act. Including you.

Sometimes it seems like we're all living in some kind of prison, and the crime is how much we all hate ourselves. It's good to get really dressed up once in a while and admit the truth - that when you really look closely, people are so strange and so complicated that they're actually beautiful. Possibly even me.

This life has been a test. If it had been an actual life, you would have received actual instructions on where to go and what to do.

You have the option of insanity. I do not. And that makes me crazy!

What I, like, dread is when people who know you in completely different ways end up in the same area. You have to develop this combination you on the spot.
