Against the dark grey, a splash of white

Against the dark grey, a splash of white
A Lord of the Rings fanpoem by Hyel

Against the dark grey, a splash of white
she stood, hip curving under the cloth.
Grey against grey, he shrunk from the light,
against dark night, a like black moth.

Like sunrays she only could live in the day
among people as bright and golden as she;
as night slinks in he sees her wither away
even as he grows strong. He wants to be

someone golden, sometimes, when it pains
him to look at the brightness of her,
and when it feels like all that one gains
from the dark is the power of murder

of things white and bright
and golden, and fright
creeps in, he sees
only what is in his
own heart
in the dark
in the dark.
